Cringe VS Content
Living in a boarding school which prohibited the use of
electronic gadgets , I had no access to internet. Yep, we only had
intranet. This led me to read only books
from the library, magazines and newspaper. I still remember skipping the Lunch
breaks to finish the series ‘Legend’, crying my heart out at 3 am after
reading ‘The Boy In The Striped
Pyjamas’.
Fast forward to now, I am back home (pune) and pursuing my
first year in b.com. The unsaid norm in
the cities is to own a mobile phone after a certain age and I am not
complaining. It does feel good to own a phone but not sure how necessary. I was very eager to make use of this new found
freedom of having a mobile phone, internet and television.
Television and internet are the two biggest source of entertainment in daily life.
Talking about Indian television , it is filled with so much bullshit.
The shows having good TRPs also do no justice. The storyline is often repeated
(eg marrying the same couple for 3/4 times), when the story is good the actors
are bad and all of us know the reality
of the reality shows. All this does not
make the television as my priority to find entertainment. obviously the next
biggest platform is YouTube.
Videos uploaded on YouTube India will mostly include:
1.
Music videos uploaded by T-series
2.
Bollywood news
3.
Trailers
4.
Television channels promoting their shows
5.
Movie reviews
6.
Roasting channels
7.
Vines channel
8.
Prank channels
9.
Dance/Music covers
10.
Stand up comedy
Well that’s all I can think of (more
like see in my feed ).
And I don’t personally find most
videos entertaining or worth watching. Often the thumb nails are made as click
baits(Bollywood nows !!). Most roasts are on TikTok and on the people who cannot speak good English. The Vines channel use abusive words to be
funny. I am not the person who thinks …gali dena bhuri baat hai….in fact quite the opposite .However, I feel some vine
makers abuse just to sound funny and that seriously does all the damage .I
don’t even want to talk about the prank channels.Despite all this people watch
the same things again and again.
So does that make YouTube totally
worthless….Nahi yaar there are quite a few channels that don’t get the
attention they deserve.
I recently stumbled upon the ‘KirtiChow’
channel. This channel provides very good content. It doesn’t only focus on
providing entertainment but few of the videos also deal with relevant issues at
hand. Another creator with unique
content is the channel ‘Swastikam’.
When it comes to
reviewing classic movies with humor no one can beat ‘Only
Desi’. This guy has an eye for minute details and a knack of narrating in a
comical way. I am always eager to watch his new uploads. ‘Tried and Refused Production’ is the best
movie review channel in my opinion. It does detail analysis of the movies. The channel
also comes up with interesting videos around Bollywood.
When it comes to
pure entertainment I watch ‘ Be You Nick’ and of course the legendary roaster
CarryMinati. Its always refreshing to watch videos of these two channels.
Other channels
which have content to offer and not cringe are
1.
Slay Point
2.
Sorabh Pant
3.
Sadhguru
4.
Sanam
5.
Abishek Upmanyu
6.
Saiman Says
7.
Buzzfeed india
It’s up to us what we want to promote
and which creators we want to support on the internet. The audience is allowed
to review the content in the comment section but that is used so badly. Instead
of giving opinion on the video people are busy begging for like. Seriously guys,
I want to know why do people do that. Hope
the level of cringe decreases and more channels having content are viewed.
Before ending this I want to mention
that I am absolutely addicted to memes. Most of the memes circulating on the
net are of good quality but some meme makers need to move on from their gold
digger girlfriends and the girls who betrayed them.
