Growing up in a middle class family

So today I decided to write about what it is like living in a middle class household.
It's actually not easy growing up in a middle class family specially in this generation.

As a child you are always compared to other children. Someone is always better than you in some or the other field. Someone is always a better singer, better at academics , someone is always more mannered than you. You are never good enough for your family.

Our parents expect us to be all rounders. If you are good at performing art...then that's not something they will support you to do. It's not something which you can pursue.
If you are good at academics than they want you to be like that person who is dancing and singing at various events. They look at you as if you haven't achieved anything in life more like you haven't given them a chance to show off infront of the relatives .

Tired from the pressures of proving ourselves , from the dejection of not achieving our goals we can't even cry openly. There is a fear of being caught. It's feels as if you are committing a crime .  The worst is that if parents see us cry , sometimes they looks at us as if we are losers. And if they sympathize with us they fail to understand want we are going through.
These are the times when one feels like escaping this world. Go someplace far where you are untouched by the problems. Where it's safe to acknowledge your passion. Where you can cry without feeling like a loser. Where you can dig into your soul . Embrace your flaws and imperfection. Where you can look at yourself and accept you as you.

One biggest gap between the parents and us is that they fail to understand that things like feeling low and depression is not real. I mean imagine a child is going through a trauma , looks at his/her loved ones for support and get a " you are so weak lable" . That's is more disheartening than anything else. The scary part here is when you read it , you think it's normal , it's the way of life.

However, I do not blame the parents for this . There is a generation gap and it's difficult for them comprehend these problems . They always think in our best interest. But they show this by having a conversation where they listen to the kids and also express their views. This builds  a place for discussion . However , most of the time there is no discussion. It's some threat, I don't know about boys but for girls it's always getting them married off.

It's not easy growing up in a middle class amidst the constant comparison, the need to prove yourself, the fear of loosing yourself to the pressure of being perfect.
