Why are trees important?

Now this is something that every person is aware of. There is  not one but numerous benefits of trees being around. Trees are an intwgral part of an ecosystem. They provide the vital gas oxygen, preserve soil, converse water, improve air quality , support the wildlife , control climate and so much more. Trees also play a huge role when it comes to commercial and economic use. They provide a lot of raw materials that are required for commercial activities. To name a few, wood pulp is used to make paper, the fruits and nuts of the trees are sold in the market or used as raw material , timber is used for construction purposes , to make furniture etc . Despite the several benefits provided by the trees there are many deforestation activities taking place in the country in the name of Development.

The importance of environmental well being is often ignored and over looked in most countries. Usually the governments prefer to build institutions that give monetary gain even if it means that they have to cut down forests. This is something which is prevalent in India too. So what can an ordinary citizen do to protect the environment? Lets start by planting a tree. TreeSena goes a step ahead and plants two trees for every tree cut.  

Brief about the mission and the kind of trees to be planted

Treesena is an initiative by SaimanSays and Mission Green Mumbai. The aim of the initiative is to plant 4282 trees (which is double the amount cut down ) in and around Aarey Colony. The first announcement regarding the movement was made on 22 December,2019 by Saiman in the video  ‘Planting over 4000 Trees in Mumbai Aarey Colony!’.  In the video he shares his concerns regarding the deforestation activities taking  place in the country. He reveals that he was inspired by Mr. Beast to initiate this movement. The objective here is to plant trees that are indigenous and have better chances of survival. To ensure that, the saplings will be at least 4 feet tall and a year old. The cost per sapling is 380.

On the 8^th of January a video was uploaded by Saiman in which Saiman and his fans are seen planting trees and enjoying it thoroughly.  The video is about the first tree plantation that happened on the 5^th of January. There was a lot of singing and dancing. On the 5^th   of January 300 trees were planted in the Aarey Colony.

TREEMATHON

  Many Indian YouTubers realized that planting trees is a worthy cause and became part of Treemathon.  On 26 January, there was live streaming  where ‘Getting Over IT with Bennett Foddy’ was played. It was an attempt to raise funds for planting over 4000 tress in Aarey Colony.  People who are a part of Treemathon are Saiman Says, Abish Matthew, Sorabh Pant, Be YouNick, Kenny Sebastian, Slayy Point, Sahil Bulla, Kaneez Surka ,Salil Jamdar, Jose Covaco, Kumar Varun, Biswa Kalyan Rath, Zakir Khan and  CarryMinati. With so many comedians joining the stream it was quite a blast. The eight hour long stream is full of fun and humor. By the end of the stream around $ 5200 were raised which is enough to plant about a 1000 trees.

Mission Green Mumbai

This movement is started by Subhajit Mukherjee with the aim of planting 1 crore trees in Mumbai with the citizens. The mission is to increase the tree cover and make Mumbai pollution free. Their moto is “ Each One, Plant One”. They have conducted various drives across the city to plant trees the most recent being ‘ Jal Shakti  Abhiyan Tree Plantation Drive and the Republic Day Tree Plantation Drive .  Mission Green Mumbai has also been active in the clean up drives.  They were a part of the ‘ Clean Dadar beach’ along with a lot of other environmental activists.  They were also a part of the ‘Turzon Lake Clean-Up.

 Mission Green Mumbai had also collaborated with Green Ubuntu to create the awareness about the environment among the masses. Mission Green Mumbai also came up with the creative idea to use the milk bags instead of black polythene to plant saplings. The citizens of Mumbai were requested to submit their empty milk bags with the BMC garden department so that they would reduce the plastic pollution.

Saiman Says

Saiman Says is an Indian YouTube channel operated by Saimandar. The channel is quite popular because of its meme reviews and roasts. Saiman is one of my personal favorites. He is one of the few Youtubers who makes sense and is worth watching. He is not afraid to voice his opinions. I think everyone knows about the huge fuss on  ‘ PewDiePie vs T-Series’. While most Indian and Youtubers were busy subscribing to T-Series(a big company ) and promoting it ,Saiman decided to support PewDiePie(an individual) . In some of his video he also explained that supporting T-Series does not mean that one is a patriot. He also didn’t shy away from expressing his views on the ‘Congratulations’ video made by PewDiePie. This shows that he is not just a blind fan of someone but is a responsible viewer.

Saiman talks about the content creators whose content are quite cringy. Saiman Says is gaining popularity dude to his unique style and sense of humor. It’s important to have creators who talk sense and do not say things just to please the audiences and the public. Do check out his YouTube channel.
